A group of lunatic people with an escort living it up in a medieval-kind chateau can't definitely be a dry story.
Reading the book, my head was constantly spinning about 1000 mph and interrogating me 'What??", "What is happening?'. I felt a frisson of thrill towards the middle of the book. The unimaginable twists & turns in the first three days of Chateau is my most favourite & precarious part of this book, and I was seldom sick with nerves. Adele Parks is relatively good at squeezing readers' brains.
I was fleetingly about to be bored, and Adele Parks turned the tables from time to time. Though it's a story about an escort I wonder how it was cautiously written it in a way not sexiest(X-rated) at all without compromising a gripping plot.
**** Spoiler Alert ****
The unlikely characters made my time interesting. I like the sharp-witted escort but can't say she is dumb unless being drugged.
Though Dora was sober at times, she was easily sidetracked by others' lies and tricks when she was originally decoyed. It was unreasonable that despite being the people's connoisseur, how she simply gave up to analyse her surroundings rather than believed in what was inflicted on her way and also, consequently felt that she was only traumatized.
I felt she was indecisive & sloppy spontaneously. I was suspicious if it was because of her intoxication or the story was designed in such a way. Though she appeared to me as smart initially, she should have been little mindful of her surroundings while being sober. The entire story played as pseudogame fashion except the fact here one of the players(Dora) didn't know any information.
It was also absurd that Evan had zero regard for his Dad and seemed to have secretly wished for his death. Sometimes it's unbelievable that group of strangers are hired over to act as friends and couple. My mind was dumped with so many unanswered questions like why Dora had agreed to go to France though her aim was to attack Shaun? Did she know that Daniel was employed by Shaun before going to France? I don't think so, but why did she still go. What was the motive of the trust-fund baby falling in love with escort? How could the entire Chateau burn with candles? Hope it will be revealed in the sequel.
