Heartburn by Nora Ephron

'Heartburn' is a hillarious, meandering, stand-up comedy-style fictional autobiography of Nora Ephron. Only a few can narrate their unimaginable life twists and turns in a humorous way. So is Nora Ephron. It reminds me of Midge from Marvellous Mrs. Maisel ditching her family in her shows and adding little jokes about sex, adultery, life, and being Jewish.

The protagonist, Rachel, from 'Heartburn, is surrounded by incorrigibly faithless men. She tries hard to stay in love and married to her husband. Having a toddler and being pregnant, she finds a tragic note in a book.

The wise and funny Nora Ephron made herself a reliant and indecisive Rachel Samstat as the protagonist. Through Rachel, Nora vented out her agony and proved her comic skills to survive her awful marriage. Heartburn unfolds stories of her husband's infidelity, her previous failed marriages, gossip among her friends, labouring, buying a house, the recipes, and much more mundane fights in a humorous way.

It's written haphazardly with a free-flowing writing style. I became a fan of Nora Ephron's screenwriting after watching the thoughtful romantic comedy 'When Harry Met Sally' but not admired 'Heartburn' as much as I liked WHMS.

I'm on my way to watch Mama Mia's version of Heartburn.
